Imagine being stranded in the middle of the wilderness in the 1500’s, there are cannibals and miles of forest before shelter. What would you do? In the year 1527, five Spanish were sent for an expedition to establish settlements on the coast of the Gulf Of Mexico, but thing didn’t go as planned. When they went off course, they landed in Tampa Bay and with few resources available, the crew struggled to survive. The crew built boats and sailed again, but since there was very strong wind, they crashed again but this time in Galveston. Only 4 were alive, one of the castaways was named Cabeza De Vaca. When it landed, the crew decided to negotiate with the fellow Indians, but they were slave takers, the 4 castaways were slaves for 2 years before finally escaping to Mexico City. The reason was because they Indian tribe once brought a man to Cabeza. The man been shot with an arrow in the right shoulder, the arrow was very close to his heart. With the knife Cabeza, he opened the man’s chest and with all of his energy, he pulled the arrow out of him. With a deer bone, he put 2 stitches on the wound. After 2 days, Cabeza took out the stitches and he was cured. Because of this cure, the tribe got lots of reputation throughout the land. The tribe built respect and confidence since they were the only tribe to be able to this cure. Third, his respect for the Native Americans or in other words, the indian tribes. Cabeza said he had lots of annoyances with other indian tribes, and he had lots of great disputes.
