The reason that this is important is that the breaking of the bread and sharing of the wine was symbolic of Jesus' message for the people. Jesus broke the bread and said that it was 'his body which is given to you'. Stein breaks down this sentence that the Son of God would give his human body for the salvation of the world. This means that the bread being shared is symbolic of Jesus dying so that everyone may be welcomed into Heaven f they so choose to follow him. Jesus shares the wine symbolizes basically the same thing, it shows the blood that Jesus would spill for the forgiveness of the sins of the people of God. Jesus tells his disciples to break bread and share the wine to remember him. Jesus says this so that the people would celebrate and remember the ultimate price that Jesus paid for
