An outside mediator would help Donna both to analyze the situation from an unbiased perspective and determine which employee made the better decision regarding Beckman’s future at the company. Bunch has displayed considerable technical ability and a positive attitude, and because of this he was promoted a year after joining the company. Since then he has continued to do work, even assuming the responsibilities of the job he wants to be promoted to. Donna can choose to go on with the company’s decision to hire Russell elders instead of Jack, and risk losing Jack, who said he would not work under the new manager anyway. Bunch is a valuable asset to the company, however, so losing him would not be ideal. Alternatively, Donna could choose give the Bunch the promotion. This option would satisfy Bunch, and judging by his record, would likely be a good decision. However, this isn’t completely fair to Elders and makes the company look weak or easily manipulated, this could establish a dangerous precedent for dealing with these issues. Donna could instead offer Elders the next managerial opening, and promote Jack Bunch
