Donna Bookout Case Study: Speed's Automotive And Towing

Donna Bookout-Coe runs the human resources division for the country’s largest towing company, Speed’s Automotive and Towing, and many issues have emerged concerning its employees. Donna must maintain the company’s long-established focus on customer service and uphold the existing company policies, while also ensuring continued growth for the company. Donna must deal with a diver who is potentially abusing drugs, a thieving driver, a rude dispatcher, and an employee who feels deserves the job of Garden Glen Manager. In managing these issues, she must consider the values of customer service, brand image, and internal affairs. Donna has recently learned of the potential drug use of one of her drivers, Doug Miller. An outside mediator would help Donna both to analyze the situation from an unbiased perspective and determine which employee made the better decision regarding Beckman’s future at the company. Since its founding, this company is has worked to be a respectful and honest business. This option allows Donna to show they she does not appreciate or tolerate dishonesty or stealing, but she also respects her employees and values their opinions, so will not make any large decisions without first listening to her …show more content…
Bunch has displayed considerable technical ability and a positive attitude, and because of this he was promoted a year after joining the company. Since then he has continued to do work, even assuming the responsibilities of the job he wants to be promoted to. Donna can choose to go on with the company’s decision to hire Russell elders instead of Jack, and risk losing Jack, who said he would not work under the new manager anyway. Bunch is a valuable asset to the company, however, so losing him would not be ideal. Alternatively, Donna could choose give the Bunch the promotion. This option would satisfy Bunch, and judging by his record, would likely be a good decision. However, this isn’t completely fair to Elders and makes the company look weak or easily manipulated, this could establish a dangerous precedent for dealing with these issues. Donna could instead offer Elders the next managerial opening, and promote Jack Bunch
