There were several fundamental flaws from SFC’s senior management and
Miller, which eventually led to his termination.
The old resource in the S&P had 3-15 years of experience in the firm and despite the post being vacant for over 1 year and none of them weren’t given a chance to lead this department and it was directly under Jones.
The senior management hired Miller with a goal to restructure and reorganize the Information Department; the real need of it was not discussed with the existing team members.

All in all, Miller lacked flexibility, was over confident, wanted things to be done in his way and did not take into consideration the opinions of his team or SFC’s previous decisions which led to his differences with the team and the senior management.
There were several fundamental steps which should have been taken before the hiring of the new Director of Data Management. The existing staff as mentioned had an experience with SFC for over 3-15 years, Since this post was vacant for over a year, an old resource should have been given the opportunity to lead, under Jones’ supervision, the department as a first option due to their better understanding of the work ethics, norms and personal relationship in SFC.
However, once the decision to hire Miller has been taken, before Miller’s job commencement, the senior management should adopt a circuit approach and discuss on whether to restructure and reorganize the
Information System Department is a viable option and if it is, then the data management team members with significant experience should give their suggestions to design the new structure.
