Malcolm ford said that “Diversity: is the art of thinking independently together” . Diversity in teams is vital to achieve effective solution where every team member brings in unique expertise that results in all-inclusive approach for possible solutions. In this process different sets of eyes with unique pair of glasses see the problem and solution differently from one another that creates a wider coverage range. Zappos is a company who sell shoes and with a simple idea of displaying shoes in the class on the day of presentation, we created a domino effect that lead to an amazing plan for a distinct presentation of the case study. When we were watching certain videos from Zappos and discussing more about the culture we decided to bring in few balloons along with shoes for the presentation. Since Halloween was around and keeping in mind Zappos culture we decided to do a Halloween themed Case study presentation. The ideas started flowing in as everyone in the group were excited, we made some decisions on how to decorate, the budget and timeline for preparation. As Fernanda has lived in U.S for more number of years than us, she had more insight to Halloween and its traditions when compared to remaining in the team. She shared with us the traditions of Halloween and we all chalked out a plan and did our preparation by shopping and decorating the class. It was a very good experience because it was a perfect example where one person’s expertise were brought in and the others adapted themselves to work on the available knowledge for a better end result. Consensus does NOT mean everyone gets exactly what he or she wants. It does mean that everyone can live with the decision and support it as we did in this case. We supported each other to bring together a perfect presentation. Everyone in the team contributed and added value to the assignments. The technical expertise of Tzu helped us a lot during our presentation. He handled the video editing with great ease additionally sharing some of his knowledge with others in the team. Fernanda and I brought in a huge work experience and methodical approaches into the team. I believe we were good at steering the discussion in the right direction to bring out the best in all.
