Byrd And The Crew Analysis

Improved Essays
After reading the autobiography, I learned about how Byrd and the crew went on the most fascinating expedition someone could be on. I feel the theme to this would be that you should live life to the fullest because you only live once, never give up on yourself or on others and to never be afraid of what lies out there. One important event that happened in my life , has to be the time that I first went on stage to sing by myself. I always have had stage fright since forever, and even if my friends did convince me to sign up for the talent show, I still could never do it by myself. I always had to have a sidekick there with me just so I never felt alone. As I got older, my stage fright got even worse until one day my mom

Their determination and attitude towards the situation is what helps them reach the goals they set and achieve success. And that’s what I think that the author was trying to relay to the reader as the theme for the book. One of the reasons I say that is because of an example in the book. After getting down the mountain one of the news reporters asked him how did he have the effort to make it down the mountain and he answered, “my dad always said to never give…

As the American industrialist, Henry Ford, once said, “Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us bigger, even though sometimes it is hard to realize this. For the world was built to develop character, and we must learn that the setbacks and grieves which we endure help us in our marching onward.” In Laura Hillenbrand’s nonfiction book Unbroken, the brave Louis Zamperini embodies Ford ’s quote when his plane collides into the Pacific during World War II. He has recognized he has a minimal chance of survival, Louie not only tried to keep himself at the brink of survival, but also retain the health of the two other crewmen.…

The first example of this theme would be the relationship between Sonny and his Mother. I think Elsie Hickam had one of the greatest impacts on his life. She was always there to support him and encourage him to try harder and do the best he could. In chapter three she wanted him to try to build his rocket again because that was his dream, and it did not really work out the first time. A lot of people in Coalwood talked about what happened when the first rocket failed and his father was embarrassed for himself but his mother was not embarrassed.…

In John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath we learn of a long and strenuous journey by the Joad family. Then of course in How To Read Literature Like a Professor the title of the very first chapter is "Every Trip is a Quest" which is indefinitely expressed throughout the entire book of The Grapes of Wrath. The theme "Every Trip is a Quest" can be a common theme through any journey or trip in life, whether a literal trip or a personal journey throughout daily life. In The Grapes of Wrath one can analyze this theme and break it down into different sections; life leading to the journey, information relating to Tom Joad, and both minor and major setbacks throughout their journey to California through Route 66.…

His life and the short journey he embarked upon was an indication of a meaningful life because it was filled with bravery. This alone is evident based upon the fact that he was aware of the danger that stood in front of him and purposely threw away the things he needed to be safe, putting himself in danger. He made this very clear when he gave one man his watch and map telling him that otherwise he would just “throw it away” because he didn’t “want to know what time it is. [He didn’t] want to know what day it is or where [he was].” because to him “none of that matters” (McCandless, Into The Wild…

No student had to perform, this performance was strictly voluntary. I, was terrified at the thought of being judged but I was also overwhelmed by a sense of adventure. With the support of my friends I decided to take a leap of faith. Days passed and it was time to perform my solo in front of the judges. I was more nervous than I had ever been before, but I knew I had to do this, my self-respect depended on it.…

In my speech, I will be describing the trials and triumphs of solitude, and the bittersweetness that come after. In both The Diary of Anne Frank and Island of the Blue Dolphins, there is a time of isolation with both times of optimism, and also pessimism. In both Island of the Blue Dolphins and The Diary of Anne Frank, the book starts off with an average girl of her time and place without anything to write a book about, but then their lives take a turn for the worst. In Island of the Blue Dolphins, Karana, the main character, loses her father in a unnecessary battle over otter pelts and what is a fair share.…

The most notable one that stuck with me was when the tragedy of red-haired Alexander happened, “The ore bucket had hit him in the shaft’s bottom and he died instantly” (119). The family members that worked at the Sudbury mine with him quit their job when they were all not allowed time off to attend his funeral. This shows how close the family is and how much every single one of them meant to each other, because you would not just quit your job for anyone. Alexander was at the start of his career, having just finished college and had a really big opportunity when red-haired Alexander was killed. He gave up his opportunity in order to help his brother when they were short one man when they were re-hired back at the mine.…

The heat from the stage lights, the watchful gazes of the audience, and the sweat dripping off of our faces as we struggle to remember our lines, these sensations of being on stage are what caused the performing arts to become not only an activity, but also a passion and an unexpected source of personal growth. Through my experiences in drama and music I have been able to discover my own meaning of fulfillment and define who the person behind my appearance truly is. My passion in the performing arts started when I was a young child first learning to play the violin. Picking up the violin at the age of 6, I became stuck on one of the most basic songs for almost a whole year. At that time no one believed that I could play the violin, my teacher thought that I was too hyperactive and even my mom attempted to convince me to quit.…
