2. Broad, Lifelong Goal/s & Rationale: Students must learn how to practice close reading when reading for information in a text. I will teach my students to determine how the text is structured, and understand the impact of certain words or phrases that the author chooses. My future students will one day be adults who make decisions daily about which products to buy and which ones to not buy. Students need to understand that some of the products they purchase will never go away, or at least take thousands of years do decay.

3. Specific Daily Objective:
• Students will learn and understand how to close read informational texts.
• Students will learn to determine central ideas in a text as well as the point of view in which the author takes.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.3
Analyze a complex set of ideas or sequence of events and explain how specific individuals, ideas, or events interact and develop over the course of the text.

5. Assessment and/or Outcomes: I will be able to assess students informally during the guided practice. When students are working in groups or by themselves I will be able to circulate the room and see which sections of the article they chose to underline. If…
