He believes that putting more money into border security will help lower the percentage of illegal immigrant’s crossing over into the country. Both Conservatives and Liberals want to have a secure border and to protect our country, but the problem is whether putting more money into border security will actually make a difference. Because of illegal immigration, our nation has faced an economic downfall with having to spend a significant amount of money on border security and equipment that help them seize people and smuggled goods crossing the border. We have also had to spend money to care for the illegal immigrants, causing taxes to go up, and making everyday life more difficult. According to Alden, “The border and immigration enforcement is by far the largest budget item for the DHS” (Alden 111). I would have to agree with Melysa Sperber’s point about how our country has spent so much already on border security and it has not stopped people from coming into the U.S illegally. The reforms that I talked about earlier both include proposals of putting more money into border security. Where does this money come from? The money comes from us; our taxes continue to rise and with the reforms above, taxes will once again go up.
