The blue topaz is one of the most unique, fashionable, historical, and incredible gemstones on planet earth. The Blue topaz is found in the enormous crystals in pegmatite dikes (Topaz). Pegmatite dikes comprise extremely coarse crystalline granitic rocks (Dike ( Geology )). It can also be found in rhyolite, gneisses, and schists which are very acidic (Topaz)." The Mohs' Hardness scale is the 1 - 10 scale of minerals hardness. The blue topaz is number 8 on that list. It's chemical composition is Al2 SiO4 (R,OH)2, which is fluor containing aluminum silicate, which is fluorosilicate (Schumann). Another quality of the blue topaz is that it has perfect cleavage (Schumann). Because of its perfect cleavage, the topaz is susceptible to breaking (King). When scratched, a mineral may leave a streak of a color behind. The blue topaz has a colorless streak (Schumann). The mineral has a vitreous luster (Schumann). Topaz can be cut in a variety of shapes. Topaz can be cut into a square, round, octagon, pear, oval, heart, and many others (About the Blue topaz)

In the TPMP, there are specific areas such as the Rattlesnake Mountain Sill, located in the western part, that has the best exposed sill with medium to fine grained syenodiorite rock in the northern and southern regions of the mountain (Carman, 1994). The textures in these rocks go from a glassy devitrified content to very fine grained on the surface and medium to coarse grained in the center where contact with country rock and fast cooling cannot occur (Carman, 1994). The major minerals contained within these basalts are augite, olivine, Fe-Ti oxides, and biotites which contain compositional zoning, and zoning in feldspar grains and some pyroxenes (Carman, 1994). Phenocrysts occur on the cooled edges of the Big Bend sills which, when present in a magma intrusion, are rather important because the settling of phenocrysts signifies the major factor in differentiation in intrusions (Carman, 1994). However, phenocrysts are very rare in the Rattlesnake Mountain Sill contact rock, but that does not rule out the possibility of flow differentiation that may have reduced the phenocrysts along the borders (Carman, 1994).Plagioclase grains have a bimodal size distribution with the smaller size having a greater plethora than the larger of the two because the larger ones were transported in by…

As the top layers of the valley beds are made mostly of siltstones and shales, valleys are more easily eroded away than the tougher sandstone-covered ridges. A significant physical characteristic of the Appalachian Mountains are its ridges: two divisions of the range, the Blue Ridge and the Valley and Ridge, are composed of narrow, rocky formations that distinguish the mountains from surrounding valleys. The tops of the ridges, which are hundreds to more than a thousand feet higher than the surrounding valleys, tend to be covered by rough, jagged…
