Birth Restrictions

A sixteen-year-old girl has sex for the first time with her boyfriend. She is on birth control pills and her boyfriend is using a condom because they do not want her to become pregnant. If the condom breaks they can only rely on her birth control pills since the morning after pill is only offered to those above the age of seventeen. There has been quite a bit of controversy, over the age restrictions for emergency contraception. Some will argue that a seventeen-year-old girl is still a child herself and is not mature yet to make health choices on her own. While others believe that if a girl has decided to be sexually active she should have the freedom to make her own reproductive choices.

The government in Iran is in control over their citizen’s reproductive rights. By not having the option to regulate how many children a person wants have or when is a choice many Americans do not have to worry about. American women have the freedom to control their reproductive choices. I believe the freedom of choice should be extended to those under the age of seventeen because they should have complete say in what happens to their body if they are deciding to have …show more content…

Various pro-choice organizations support access to emergency contraception, giving the freedom to choose to the

1.3.1 Case Laws: 1.3.2 The Gillick competence Both at common law and statutory provisions, children have the capacity to perform certain acts and take certain decisions even without the consent of their parents or guardians. The critical question is whether the child has reached the age of maturity and has the capacity to make those decision or actions. (U.S Department of Health and Human Services). The use of contraceptives has served to decrease the rate of teenage pregnancy, but there are still restrictions on young girls, who are forbidden in purchasing their own products. Despite the risk, birth control helps to develop responsibility in young teens, it is much safer than the alternative, and it is effective.…

It is up to that woman whether or not she is in an appropriate place to receive an abortion. That choice is a “fundamental right” of all women. It is not the place of the government to make this choice, or yet prevent this choice, for women. They should not take away that right because a woman decided to, or sometimes was forced to, participate in such activities that would bring a woman to make this decision. This choice has been proven to be a right by the case of ‘Roe vs. Wade’.…
