Benjamin Carson (also known as Ben Carson), was born in Detroit, Michigan, on September 18, 1951. His mother, though under-educated herself, pushed her sons to read and to believe in themselves. Despite the fact that his mother did not have much to provide for her sons, Carson’s motivation took him from being a poor student to receiving academic honors and eventually attending medical school. As a doctor, he became director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital at age 33 and earned fame for his groundbreaking work separating conjoined twins. In 2015, Ben Carson announced that he was running for the following year 's presidential election, hoping to gain the Republican nomination. He is one of the party 's leading candidates in the polls being number one in the republican vote for the past couple of weeks followed by Donald Trump which is close behind. There are many reasons why some individuals feel as if Carson should not become the next president of these United States. People argue that he does not care for the well-being of minorities, he does not care or help fund the poor, and most importantly, that he is trying to reform government assitance in order to disadvantage American citizens that benefit from it. I however after looking over his policies believe that these assumptions are invalid and inappropriate.
