People constantly settle in life without fulfilling their ambitions; when people get rejected on more than one occasion they begin to abandon their ambitions and settle for less. How can individuals have pleasure in life without truly fulfilling their ambition? The movie`s purpose is to cause reflection among the viewer. The movie`s message is, do not to settle for everything in life. This message is shown through Ben singing voice, his occupation and his relationship with his fiancée.

Throughout Ben`s childhood, he believed that he possessed an admirable singing voice and was convinced by his parents that he had one. He was mightily convinced that he possessed a talent in singing that he made the decision to audition for the school production (One Week). The harsh comments stated by Misses Bell (the judge for the audition) upon Ben performing, came from the internal grudge that she held against him. Ben was

This initial thought of his serves as an indicator that he was not ready to make the commitment. Ben and Samantha had quite the contrast of personalities. Ben was adventurous and creative in comparison to Samantha who was narrow minded person and a routine person (One Week). The significant disparity among personalities would lead a person to believe that they would be incompatible for each other. Throughout his journey across Canada he met variety of people that had a unique perspective on life. Ben questioned what love was and had an affair with another woman, since the people he met made him realize he was living in the shadow of Samantha (One Week). In order to achieve satisfaction in his life Ben deemed that Samantha could not be part of it. The trip made him realize that he was living in a miserably manner and there was more to life than what he had with Samantha.
