“You can’t be a first-world economy in the 21st century if you are not on the path to a clean energy future.” This quote by Wayne Swan, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, while running his election campaign, has inspired me to take a stand for the green energy initiative. For more than a century now, we as a civilization have solely depended on our fossil fuel resources to meet our energy demands. But with the depleting oil reserves and scientific evidence pointing towards an ever increasing global temperature, the demand for research in the alternative energy field has increased. The governments around the world have become aware of the potential benefits of Clean energy programs and are providing a number of sanctions towards green …show more content…
From 1991 until the end of 2012, globally installed capacity has increased from about 2GW [1] to over 31GW [2], with an annual growth rate of about 2%. With this increasing focus on sustainable development and the rise in popularity of, renewable energy generation, as a clean energy source, it is predicted that the worldwide installed wind capacity will be more than double by 2012 and 2020 [3]. Rapid advances in wind turbine technology and materials that are being used to make turbines has increased the size and the output of wind turbine, maximizing their efficiency, and potential energy output. There has been a number of multi-MW wind farms that have been set up across various countries Europe and the United States. These wind farms run autonomously and mitigate the load of the traditional fossil fuel burning Power plants. It’s a known fact that the wind tends to blow more strongly and uniformly over the oceans. There has been a lot of ongoing research in establishing large-scale offshore wind farms to satisfy the demand of coastal region. As of 2015, with a total installed capacity of 63,467 MW worldwide, the wind energy is proving to a promising future in catering for the future energy demands. …show more content…
Between 1860 and the First World War, a range of technologies was developed to generate steam, by capturing the sun 's heat, to run engines and irrigation pumps [5]. Solar Photovoltaic cells are one of the most efficient amongst the different solar conversion alternatives. With China producing one-third of the total solar photovoltaic cells and exporting cheaply more than 95 percent of its produce the cost of the producing reliable and clean energy from the sun has significantly reduced [2]. Also with the rapid development and research in the new materials for usage in the solar panels, the efficiency of solar energy conversion has significantly increased. Other than PV cells for harnessing the Solar technology there are a number of other solar energy technologies that compete in the different energy markets. With the various sustained energy implantation policies from governments across the globe, there is a strong growth of solar energy

According to Nelson and Emmott (2013), solar energy could deliver about 100 times the world energy demand. This capacity is much higher than the other renewable energies. Solar energy also has plenty of different scales of deployment ranging from residential to commercial plants, making solar the most dynamic option. When comparing the recent growth among all renewable energies, solar has the largest recent growth. Over the decade from 2003-2013, there was an increase in photovoltaic use by more than 40% every year (Benda, 2014).…

The advancements in burning things for power has stagnated. Wind turbines are newer and have been seeing massive improvements on a very regular basis. Since 2000 global wind power capacity has increased by a factor of about 20 [3]. The United States alone went from a wind power capacity of 4147 MW in 2001 to 61,327 MW in 2014 [3]. This demonstrates the rapid and easily scalable capabilities of wind power.…

Renewable wind energy, solar power, and geothermal power are growing strong industries overseas. The younger generation may reinvent the way energy equipment is used, update manufacturing policies and provide a powerful administration to top developers. President Obama set out to double the renewable energy capabilities when he took charge of the White House duties. The ultimate goal was to install and restore geothermal, wind power and solar generation to full capacity or at least enough power and technology to provide fuel for 16.7 million homes by December,…

In some countries, although turbines make the wind power be uninterrupted, the energy consumption keeps increasing during the whole wind energy exchange process. As Udo (2013) points out, almost 10% of the total energy generated in 20 years by a wind turbine is spent on the building and operation of the machine itself in the Europe. It means maintaining wind power working will cost some energy consumption. However, this energy consumption will be higher because of the flexibility of grids. Grids are the system for every country to transport electricity through different areas.…
