Breastfeeding serves as a connection or bond between a mother and child. Mothers experience feelings of joy as they nurse their newborn. This is the case because of the far that hormones are released that cause a peaceful like sensation. (“Benefits”). Psychological benefits arise from breastfeeding as well. Children who are breastfed tend to cry less and have a better band with their mother versus children who were not breastfed (Sloan). Nursing children is affordable and beneficial to not only the newborn child, but the mother as well. Bottles are time consuming to prepare when using formula. It is much faster and simpler to place a baby to the breast rather than preparing a bottle of formula (“Benefits”). Baby bottles are also a lot to carry around on top of the other necessities babies must have on them at all time such as, diapers,wipes, and a change of clothing. Breastfeeding allows the parent to carry a lighter load when traveling with their baby.
Aside from breastfeeding being quite convenient, it is strongly supported by physicians as well. Hospitals have implemented a numerous number of policies that support breastfeeding. More than fifty percent of hospitals in the United States practice the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding. These policies have improved over the years, but not as much as they need to. Research shows that, from 2007 to 2013, several keys aspects of maternity care supportive of breastfeeding have shown consistent improvement. Individualized mPINC reports sent to each participating hospital compare the hospital 's’ maternity care policies and practices with recommended standards, and indenting improvement opportunities.

Mothers also benefit from breastfeeding as well. Blood loss during postpartum period is decreased and returns to normal quickly.
