Jonathan Singer and Alan Barsky (2012) did a wonderful job in explain the defenses between being a forensic social work ,a social work attending in court. This is something that I had not thought about , he explained that as social workers we have obligation to the legal system. We should look professional and have court ready notes. We also must now that we have limitations with our clients. A client must give authority to reals records that is all of the records.…
Ben Hall was praised by everyone in the district as a fine, hard-working, dedicated and honest stockman. He was known variously as ‘Bold Ben Hall’, ‘Gentleman Bushranger’ for his avoidance of bloodshed and daring raids, many on which were planned to ridicule the police. Ben Hall was quoted saying 'I'm not a criminal. I've been driven to this life, I was held for a month in gaol, an innocent man. Mr Norton, it’s your mob that have driven me to it”.…
The antebellum period had many supporters that believed that slavery was uncivilized and wrong. This was a time period that struck an uproar in history because it spoke up against the wrong doings of slavery. One of the runaway slaves that contributed to this historical period was Fredrick Douglass. He ran away to the north in search of financial stability and freedom. Many people in the north; however, did not want to work alongside a black man.…
On the other hand, the distributed self would suggest that how people experience the world and make sense of it is primarily a result of socio-cultural processes, which varies over time and space. Constructionists conceptualize depression as an identity continually renegotiated via linguistic exchange and social performance. They would argue that the biological attitude excludes the social and linguistic dimensions of experience from consideration; social constructionist perspective is essential to understand how subjectivity and meaning are constructed in language and social interaction. For example I will briefly discuss the argument of gender differences in depression and how social constructionists consider that through looking at the ‘material discursive’ practices it is the pressures of society, which causes depression. They argue that a certain pressure is thrust upon women to be doing activities that fits the ideology of being a ‘good woman’ this can exhaust the woman’s body therefore causing depression.…
Clifford and James are two philosophers who have contradicting opinions on whether having sufficient evidence is always necessary to believe in something. Where Clifford believes you cannot believe in anything without sufficient evidence, James believes that if the evidence doesn’t point in one way or another, it is justified to believe something based on our will. I will be arguing that James’ side is indeed correct. In James’ paper, he provides concrete evidence as to why his opinion is correct.…
The Supreme Court, as Justice Madison puts it, is the Supreme interpreter of the law, and all laws that are not constitutional must be strike down. Brandeis also thinks this way. He thinks the interpreter of the law has supervisory powers. They must be impartial and not allow a citizen or government official to break the law. If citizens break the law, then the appropriate punishment applies according to the statutes; however, if the government breaks the law, then sanctions applies to uphold the integrity of the law.…
Harun Farocki’s “Parallel vol 1” exhibits how the digital representation of water, trees, fire, and clouds in video games have progressed over time. The video highlights the transformation from simply pixelated squares to realistic movements. The advanced CPGs have made distinguishing a video game from film difficult, as seen by the side-by-side moving clouds example. Farocki argues that computer images seek to relieve film of its duty to depict reality. This argument is similar to that made by Bazin regarding photography and painting.…
Fredrick Douglass initially scorned both political parties of his time, the Democrats and Republicans, for being too pro-slavery and compromising too regularly on issues of slavery. From Lincoln 's early presidency, Douglass criticized Lincoln before the emancipation proclamation, stating "Whoever live through the next four years will see Mr. Lincoln and his Administration attacked more bitterly for their pro-slavery truckling, than for doing any anti-slavery work. " Instead of compromise, Douglass believed that the Republican Party would have to transform from an anti-slavery party into a fully abolitionist institution. Although Fredrick Douglass believed himself to be separate from the Republicans because of their more moderate views, he…
Schmitt insist that the friend -enemy distinction is the defining feature of the political, and that violence is the mode of preservation for the state and its beliefs. “Each participant is in a position to judge whether the adversary intends to negate his opponent’s way of life and therefore must be repulsed or fought in order to preserve one’s own form of existence” (Schmitt 1927, 27). The political exist to justly defend the created political order. A group of people who willingly engage in political life must do so by recognize their moral and political views as being different form others, in that the others or enemies hold such views that the differences are of the utmost degree of intensity and have no means of consolidation.…
Thomson crafted a compelling argument although I personally disagree with it. I disagree with the suggestion that carrying a baby to term should be classified as a “Good Samaritan” or supererogatory act. She claims this because mothers are forced to house their babies for nine months and risk their own health in doing so. She claims that this action is above and beyond what the law of the land should require a person to endure. The issue that I have with this argument stems from her claim that once a child is taken home and the birth parents choose not to put the baby up for adoption then, “they have given it rights, and they cannot now withdraw support from it” (335).…
Smith and Lambert suggest that educators assume that every student, no matter their behavior has the desire to be in class, participate, and learn. With such assumptions, the class in general will benefit. Students have many different reasons for acting out in schools including testing the teacher, need of positive attention with an adult, and many others. A strategy discussed in the article practiced the “Two-by-Ten” strategy where the teacher dedicates two minutes a day for ten days to their toughest students through personal conversation over interests in order to build a stronger personal connection with that student.…
Leaves plunge from their high-treetop abode: red, orange, and brown is illuminated by the steadily declining sun, waiting to hide from winter’s upcoming torment. The aromatic scent of pumpkin and apple cider push their way to the forefront of your nose, and cozy themselves like if they were next to a warm fireplace. The boisterous sound of your father yelling, “go Eagles” at the television fills your eardrums. Ah, fall is upon us. There’s nothing that is quite comparable to fall: winter, summer, and spring always try to curtail fall’s reign of dominance, but their attempts always seem to fall short.…
continue to, receive based solely on tourism. If the number of elephants throughout the continent continue to decrease at the present rate, tourism numbers will decrease as well and the country, as a whole, will be greatly negatively affected. Supporting Argument #3: As of 2013, 1.1 billion human beings lived on the continent of Africa (World Population Review, 2015).…
Electric cars has been a very interesting development of these past few decades, because of its impact on the technology, business and environmental aspects of our society. Traditionally, we have always been using gasoline to power our cars, but then the development of electric cars and hybrid cars allows us to power cars with not only gasoline, but also electricity. Electric car went from a period of time when they were only considered as an add on to the traditional gasoline cars because they were only able to run for a few miles. To today, where they can run up to about eighty miles, and there are cars solely running on electric. Consequently, the advancement of this technology also happens to contribute to the resurface of this issue,…
In 2013 the average 13 year old gamer spent about 6.3 hours playing video games weekly. My sources were CNN, Futurism, SheppardMullin, and the American Psychological Association. You should care because you or someone you know most likely loves to play video games. They could be a really nice person but their gamer nature might contradict it. The reason I’m doing this topic is because I am a huge fan of gaming and I want to show that all gamers aren’t bad or a terrible person.…
