Art Analysis: The Sweeping Woman

Improved Essays
1.“The weeping woman” has art elements line, colour, texture, and shape. The first element that I found was lines. There are different lines in the face and the background. Some of the lines are wavy (which are in the hair) and straight (the yellow lines in the background). However, the most significant amount of lines in this portrait are in the woman’s face and the background. The second art element that I found was colour. The colour I noticed in this artwork are primary and secondary colours. For example yellow, green, brown, blue, and a shade of grey. The colours that are in this painting are comfortable and pleasant colours (you can see the happy colours in the background) Those colours express an emotion to what the women are feeling sadness. My next element is textured. I believe that the background would have a hard rocky feeling to it because it looks like there is a lot of paint on it. But the women's face will have a smooth surface including her hair. The last art element what I observed in this painting are shapes. There are different shapes in this artwork. I saw a variety of shapes in the face of the figure, and I saw mostly triangles. The triangles have different shapes and sizes. In the shoulders of the women, you can tell there are triangles, but they have little lines on it. I also found ovals in the fingernails …show more content…
I think that the principles of art in this a painting are contrast, rhythm, balance. This figure is unbalanced because there is more hair on one side, and a lot of characteristics of the face have more on one side too e.g. the triangles. One of the shoulders has more triangles also. I think that the contrast of the painting is the face because the figures face surrounded by bright colours (primary colours) such as yellow and green. But the women have a grey part in the middle of her face, and that makes the picture stand out more to the audience eyes. The rhythm is the triangles repeating in the face, and that makes a visual

The way the colors kind of flow and contrast all at the same time. You can see the shapes of hands next to faces showing people gathered together in a group. They look as if that are dancing. The texture looks a little random which makes since with it being a collage piece. You can see the crisp lines of there the image was cut out and then pasted on the canvas.…

Color: The painting has a combination of complimentary colors that give the piece a warm look. For instance, the yellow and orange provides light to the composition and also add a visual depth to it because both colors reflect the scheme of a peaceful night. In addition, the blue in the sky beautifully portrays harmony throughout the painting, and the black in the background perfectly contrasts with the blue in the sky and the circled white brush strokes…

The Outline which is the outer edges is the one forming the lips, the eyelids, in the collar the Frida is wearing also, on the branches and leaves. The Contour lines mark the edges of the paint in which we can see it on the nose, the mouth, and ears, and also in the elements of the portrait. Cross Contour is noticeable on the lips and the nose of Frida Kahlo, and on the collar as rings. The tones are dark green, light green, yellow and gray, which gives a three-dimensional illusion of the objects. Bright colors are found throughout the…

Art can convey different messages to the viewer, for example, the paintings of Circe on slide 41. In the painting to the left Circe seems to be like a lonely and angry queen, but in the painting to the right she seems to be more like a nurturing shepherd. The colors within the painting to the left makes Circe seem broody, but in the painting to the right the lighter colors make her seem joyful and loving. The colors within the painting to the left are much darker.…

Another element found in this art piece are warm and primary colors. The colors are local or naturalistic because they are used as the eye sees them. The hues are plain or ordinary which convey that the people in the artwork might feel bored or frustrated because beauty can be difficult and painful and may not be worth it because at the end they are still the…

The artist shows great precision and expertise by making all three figures in the sculpture connect with one another. In doing that, it provides a more realistic sense to the piece. To me, it is obvious that the artist wanted to show off his unique skill in creating this sculpture. The horror in the face of the woman…

Painted with a mixture of wax and pigment is used which you have to heat. The background is all painted in light grey or white but the faces don’t have a formula each is individualized. As I saw a photo of the portrait I emphasized that the lady has appealing youthfulness, which expresses me that she, isn’t that old. Every eye seems large in fayum portraits but each one can tell a different story from its shape, according to Y.Z. Kami (2016) “So exaggerated, so large but at the same time so real and so convincing, they’re soulful as if they’re giving us information about another dimension” The portrait shows large serious eyes demonstrating shape and noticeable long lashes that complimented her beauty, which represents lines. There is texture in her loose curls that covered her head and mostly her forehead that made me still…

When I first started taking this class and even before I started taking this class when I thought of art I thought of beautiful bright pictures and now black and white pictures are just as important and can say just as much if not more than bright pretty paintings. This piece draws to me. I think if it was in color then it would be less defining. It might show color and show the woman lighten up or brighter than it does not when in reality she is far from light. She really is dark and grieving and has no way of showing…

Her almond shaped eyes cover the largest amount of space on her face. Above her eyes are carved domed arches that represent eyelids and above her eyelids are engraved bends that serve as eyebrows. Within the oval shaped eye-sockets are two slightly engraved circles depicting the iris and the pupil, and create the impression the woman is glancing to the side. Her nose protrudes from the rest of her face and consists of two vertical linear lines that originate at the inner corner of her eyes and enclose with a horizontal line slightly above her lips. Picasso’s artwork the weeping woman is aesthetically different than that of Kahlo’s portrait with thorns. These artworks have very different artistic styles, where the portrait from Picasso uses the style of cubism, that contains straight lines and geometric shapes which has creates a disfigured image of the weeping woman. Whereas Kahlo’s portrait is more realistic and fluent, with curved and natural shapes. Within the artwork Weeping Woman the colours that are within the composition are warm and bright colours, excluding for the sickly green that is used as the woman’s skin colour. These colours are very unnatural and assist with the aesthetic of the cubist style.…

On first inspection of the piece, the piece seems to be made up of lots of lines and blocks of colors creating jagged shapes along with broken lines all pieced together in a collage-like, layered fashion to form the overall appearance of a skull. The color palette used is mainly based on subdued primary tones of red, blues and yellows against the dominate black forming some shapes and lines, and the white of the abandoned canvas showing through. Subject Matter and Interpretation The first impression this artwork gives the viewer is one of…
