After being at Aquinas College for a semester, I really never thought about disability accessibility on campus. However, in class when you brought up how Aquinas does not have much accessibility for people with disabilities it made me realize the lack of. There are many ways that Aquinas could make the campus much easier for people with disabilities to get around. Aquinas College lacks disability accessibility in the Academic Building, Wege, and Sturrus. When it comes to the Academic Building there is not much that is helpful for disabled students. The front of the building has stairs in order to enter, and there is no ramp for people who need a wheelchair to enter through. Instead they must go through a side door, and there are no signs to tell you where to find this. Also, the Academic Building has three levels, and there are many stairs that have to be climbed to get to each level. If someone is not able to walk up these stairs, they would have a hard time finding an elevator because there are no signs to help people out. Once you enter Wege, you have the choice to either walk up a set of stairs, or walk down a set of stairs. There is no elevator at the front of the building that allows individuals to get to different levels. This makes it difficult for individuals who have disabilities to get where they need to go. I would have never known this if you did not say this in class, but people who need to use the elevator must enter at the side door in order to use the elevator.
