Many of the assessments used for ABA can be used in a student’s IEP for goals and present levels. To assess the students strengths and interests teachers can do interviews with students, teachers, and parents. The student’s interests and strengths should guide teacher’s individual instruction for the student (Leach, 2014) For ABA to reach full potential in the general education classroom goals must be set. To establish goals teachers, families, administers, and other service providers should collaborate on common goals for the student in the general education classroom. Using the assessments makes writing goals much easier. Goals should have all of the following criteria; functional, developmentally appropriate, observable, measurable, indicate criteria for mastery, and positively stated. This is a large amount of work that could cause a problem for many teachers. To overcome this challenge it would be best to partner up with the general education teacher to develop an ABA plan that works best for all. In addition, if a principal misunderstood the information about ABA they may think that it is all of special educations work to do to establish and manage the ABA intervention in the classroom. To overcome this challenge it is important that all staff who are going to be involved are educated on ABA before the interventions begin. In conclusion, ABA is highly effective intervention system that should be used in all general education classrooms. Research shows that ABA has positive impacts on all student not just the students with severe disabilities (Leach, 2014).
