The articles I am using for this assignment appear more into the middle of the argument for or against ABA, instead of strongly on either side. O. Ivar Lovaas was one of the most prominent early practitioners of ABA. He used many different methods and claimed that if he had gotten a hold of Hitler when Hitler was young, he could have changed Hitler to be kind. Some of Lovaa’s more controversial methods in terms of today was his use of electric shock and other kinds of physical punishment to keep a behavior from being repeated. People back in Lovaas’ times thought that Autistic individuals and other people with varying problems could not be helped.…

The purpose of this experiment was to test the hypothesis that passive behavior from individuals in a group will signal that the situation is in fact, not dangerous. An individual is less likely to intervene in a situation if bystanders appear passive or if bystanders are there during the circumstance. When witnessing a situation alone, it has been tested, that these individuals reaction rate seem quicker and that the response rate and interpretation of the emergency happened earlier. Although the response is different and involves more individuals, the reaction rate of both individuals alone and freely interacting groups appeared similar. Change consists of two characteristics: environmental and instilled behaviors, or beliefs. I feel confident in saying that people can successfully change who they are if they are changing environmental factors, assuming all variables are met. Environmental change is possible, through strong will, desire, and possibly the help of a counselor or therapist. However, instilled behaviors including beliefs, morals, and ethics are by far more challenging to achieve. Success in change of instilled behaviors may or may not be accomplished, I want to say more often not, and it takes a long time to achieve.…

The psychoanalytic theory mainly focuses on how the unconscious mind influences behavior and thoughts. Emphasis is placed on previous childhood experiences and events and how they may have influence on the adult mind and actions. The psychoanalytic theory also proposes that people are innately bad natured. While I do agree that childhood experiences and traumas can most definitely affect the adult psyche, I don't believe that childhood experiences are the end-all, be-all of adult behaviors and thoughts. The idea that everything we do as adults stems from something that happened in our childhood seems to be oversimplifying the human brain and its processes.…
