Antichrist from Greece?

Regarding what territorial location the Antichrist might arise, I had previously leaned towards Greece. Daniel chapter eight refers to a Goat which represents the Greek Empire. Verse eight mentions four horns which come out of the broken horn from the head of the goat. These represent the four generals that Alexander the Great left the kingdom to after he died. The following verses reference the “Little Horn” as coming out of the four horns. The context has both a historical as well as an end-times prophetic anti-type application. Most premillennial commenters suggest that this Little Horn passage has a double fulfillment. There is a historical context fulfilled in the person of Antiochus Epiphanes who reigned over the Greek Empire in the second century B.C. He is the infamous despot associated with the Jewish Maccabean revolt and a clear type of Antichrist. This is because he committed the Abomination of Desolation by sacrificing a pig on a pagan altar representing the Greek god, Jupiter. It was constructed in the Jewish temple by Antiochus during a time of Jewish persecution. The future Antichrist will commit the Abomination of Desolation as well when he sets up a false image in the future temple and demands worship of himself. He will also persecute the Jews at that time (see Matthew 24:15; 2 Thess. 2:4).

Yet types in the Old Testament never are exact copies of their later counterpart, (anti-type). If they were, they wouldn’t be types. That…
