In a recent Boston Globe article by Nekesa Mumbi Moody reported, that actor Robert De Niro has removed a documentary about anti-vaccination from the Tribeca Film Festival. The film “Vaxxed: From Cover-up to Conspiracy” by a discredited former doctor, Andrew Wakefield, a known anti-vaccination activist who’s findings linked autism to vaccines. The film came under fire over his false findings. De Niro, wanted to open up a conversation about the issue of vaccination. In society the controversy over whether we should be vaccinated or not is nothing new. The fear that vaccines comes from the fear of negative side effect they came from vaccines. Due to this, 40% of parents in America have chosen to postpone or refuse altogether to get their children vaccinated. The main sources of the controversy over vaccination is the fact that, their is a great deal of misleading and that the public feels that they are being pressured into getting their kids vaccinated. This controversy over vaccination has been going on since the introduction of vaccines. Vaccines were introduced to the medical community in the 1800’s by a physician named Edward Jenner. The controversy really started In 1853, with the Compulsory vaccination Act was passed. All infants under three months had to be vaccinated, and if not done the parents were to pay a fine. The anti-vaccination group challenged the law, because they felt that the compulsory vaccination act was challenging their basic civil rights. The problem…
