Modern concepts of Anti Social Personality Disorder have been traced back to the 19th century. Often refered to as “moral insanity” in those days. Moral insanity was then described as “a form of ‘mental derangement’ in which the intellectual faculties are unimpaired, but the moral principles of the mind are ‘depraved or perverted.” althought this definition would exist for several years, it wasn't until 1939 when DK Henderson laid the firm foundation for what would become the present day defination of what Anti Social Personality disorder is. He described Anti Social Personality Disorder as “who conform to a certain intellectual standard but who throughout their lives exhibit disorders of conduct of an antisocial or a social nature.” This was further expanded on in 1956 by adding “psychopathic personality as a distinct clinical entity, and established its core criteria around antisocial behaviours (in particular, aggressive acts). These views have been extremely influential in shaping later classifications of sociopathy antisocial personality disorder, dissocial personality disorder (ICD) and psychopathy. Once again in 1968 the defination of Anti Social Personality Disorder was changed in the DSM II to a simple “basically unsocialized” along with ten other mental illnesses. Anti Social Personality Disorder is usually caused by a combination of a rough upbringing, as well as many other enviromental and behavioral factors. Some genetics can be inharited from the parents, such as shyness or being timid, or having a not so positive outlook on life. Another casuse can be the upbringins a person had, such as abusive parents or relatives, both mentally and psycially, or other life changing situations. Many children will display this by harming animals, or in some cases even themselves. There may be a link between understanding the perspectives and problems of others, including other children and later onset of antisocial personality
