Anoxybacillus flavithermus AK1 is a thermophilic bacterium that is able to survive at temperatures ranging from 55 to 60°C. The AK1 strain was isolated from the hot spring “Al-Ain Alhara” located at a distance of 50 km southeast of the city of Gazan, Saudi Arabia. This study presents the morphological characterization of A. flavithermus AK1, includinga detailed description of its complete genome sequence. A total of 50 contigs were used to produce a genome sequence of 2,630,664bp that includes 2,724 protein-coding genes and 75 RNA genes, 18 of which are rRNA genes. A comparison of this genome sequence withthose of Anoxybacillus flavithermus strains that were previously submitted to NCBI revealed that the AK1 strain has the smallest genome size …show more content…

The strain was initially recognized as Bacillus flavothermusbased on the proteins it was found to express by a biochemical analysis: acetate kinase, pyruvate kinase, myokinase, alanine dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, isocitric dehydrogenase, xylanase, and α-amylase [6-8]. The strain develops yellow-pigmented colonies and can grow from 30 to 70 °C; thus, it is categorized as a moderate thermophile [5]. Afterwards, the genomic circular map was generated by usingClicO Free Service (ClicO FS), an online web-service based on Circos[17]. Briefly, 3 text files were prepared in order to run in the online server, i.e., a seven columnskaryotype file containing information of 50 contigs; a three columns forward genes file containing information on contigs ID, coordinate start, and coordinate end; and a three columns reverse genes file containing information on contigs ID, coordinate start, and coordinate end.
