Xavier focused on the introduction and conclusion, Danielle, Lucas, and I worked on the body paragraphs. My task was to demonstrate how Saw impacted culture. There were three components of culture that I incorporated in my speech: scare tactics, grusomme violence, and franchise marketing. I talked about how scare tactics have changed over the centuries based on the widespread fear of the audience. In the 1980’s most scary movies were thrillers involving psycho killers. In the 1990’s scary movies shifted to fictional characters involving monsters like Freddy Kruger. Lastly, in the 2000’s scary movies were mostly about the fear about the modern world. Saw connected with the audience because it appears that this can happen to anyone. The creators of Saw targeted the younger generation because there were many studies that indicated the greatest percentage of people that watch scary movies are ages 15-24. I learned that scientist say that Horror movies help creativity, cause anxiety, and make people more violent. I also learned that most movie sequels have not been very successful because they are repetitive, predictable, and boring. Saw is different because there is so much mystery. Everyone wanted to lead because of our personalities. Each member had good ideas, but it took a while to get organized. Each member had very busy schedules and it was hard to meet. In order to come to in a agreement, I accepted a group members idea and ran with it. Xavier demanded the introduction and conclusion because it was the “easiest part” according to him. We understood him because he does not like public speaking. Although, Xavier did not put much effort in the project, he had a good speech. Danielle and I agreed that we would do most of the speaking because we do not mind talking. Danielle does deserve the best grade because she did take over and got everything organized.
