Week Five
Negotiation Tactics
I raised my three children to be free thinkers and to be independent. Although, some of their independence was a bit much to handle during their teenage years, I am still glad I raised them the way I did. Today, they are all socially responsible adults and I am very proud of them. There is one exception; the brothers hate each other.
This essay is about my two sons, Kristoff (36) and Aleks (34) and focuses on the causes and the possible solutions to resolving this enduring conflict by utilizing some of the negotiation tools we have learned in class.

Men and Women for and with Others – encouraging the pursuit of justice on behalf of all people. In negotiations, it means reaching a compromise. Neither side gets everything they want, but they are willing to make concessions in order to reach an acceptable agreement.
4. Unity of Mind and Heart – our hearts and minds are one. In business negotiations, team unity and harmony are critical to the successful outcome of an agreement.
5. Contemplatives in Action – Your active life feeds your contemplative life and vice versa. In negotiations, this means stopping mindless haggling, it means rest and reflect by walking away from the situation, and go back to work rested with the ability to view the issue with a fresh outlook.
6. Finding God in All Things – When we pay more attention to God, we become more reverent and thankful. In negotiations, it means to approach the negotiation table with a servant’s heart. You display humility, ethics, and have only good intentions at heart.
Although I have never specifically read these excellent Jesuit core values, they are a great guide to living a meaningful life. I have used similar values to guide me through my life. I have put God first in everything I do. I always liked the armband – WWJD (What would Jesus do?) that was popular a few years ago. It is a good reminder to use when faced with a decision, conflict, or other
