The separation of Church and state means that the ideas of religion will not be intertwined with the ideas of the government. This idea goes all the way back to Thomas Jefferson in a letter he wrote in 1802 to a Baptist church. In Jefferson’s time the purpose was to keep the state out of the church’s business; however, in our society today it refers to keeping the church out of the state’s business. Therefore, in theory, the church should stay out of what the state decides to do just as we were given the right to freedom of religion. Just because someone is married to the same sex, does nto mean that they are not religious. I have been raised in a church my entire life, including the rest of my family. When recently becoming the newest members of a new church this past year, complete honesty was out in the air. Each and every one of us was welcomed including my sister as well as her wife. As a matter of fact, since her diagnose the entire church has been praying for her. This truly shows that people can be accepting to others because they are human beings just like everyone else put on this earth. These people truly care and that fact that they are a married couple of the same sex does not play a role. Everyone has the right to love who they truly love and be who they honestly are. Everyone deserves to be open and not afraid of what others think, even though in our society today people are way too
