Ruben's Artwork Analysis

This Journal use Ruben's artworks as the theme, Rosenthal by studying the details of the human bodies in Ruben's painting, to discuss the characteristics of Rubens’s artworks, and the Rubens's construction of heroic virtue. At the beginning of the journal Rosenthal was introduced that Rubens was a well-known baroque style painter in the 17th century in Western Europe. Rubens was very good at depicting the fleshy of female body, and his painting is also containing rich topic. Religious stories, myths, landscape and human portrait these are all the element contain in the Rubens’s painting, and we can find that Rubens’s painting has always been permeated with the dynamic and passion. In this journal, Rosenthal was mainly describes the details of human bodies from the visual angle. Then, Rosenthal though analyzing the details of the human bodies to improve she’s argument that she thinks painted human bodies will disrupt the painting’s original allegorical. Castor and Pollux is the twin son of Zeus, Castor dipped his hand under the women’s leg, and Pollux is catching another women’s underarm, his leg touches the women’s body. In this painting, Pollux and the two women are all nude, but there is no tyrannical and resist. Rubens was using the dark tone to bring out Castor and Pollux’s heroically, and also show the two young women’s delicate. It is the perfect combination of power and beauty. This is a heroism picture, the artist though mold the strong human body to show an irresistible power of love.
