By using successful athletes from a variety of sports, the advertisement will appeal to more people, mainly those who are fans of those sports. As these are some of the most famous athletes in the United States, the audience should know at least one of the multiple athletes featured making it a sincere appeal to them. For the audience who do not know sports, Gatorade tactically features each athlete in a place associated with their sport. For example with Karl Anthony Towns, his scene is set in a basketball locker room, making it clear to the audience what sport that athlete was famous for. Furthermore, four of the five sports being represented in the advertisement are listed in the top five sports in the United States whilst the fifth sport shown, Tennis, represented by Serena Williams, has almost 18 million American players. These statistics indicate that just by featuring Serena Williams, this advertisement could resonate with eighteen million tennis players and teach them to not give up when they lose and to drink Gatorade because Gatorade will lead to success. Moreover, by using Serena Williams, the most successful women’s Tennis player of all time, many aspiring Tennis players who idolise her will be inspired by her setbacks and achievements, and want to drink Gatorade so they can be just like their role model.
