The Broad Reading cluster measures Analia’s reading skills in decoding, reading speed, and the ability to comprehend connected text while reading. Analia’s responses across each reading area revealed her strengths and weaknesses in terms of basic reading skills, reading comprehension and reading fluency. Analia’s scores were fairly consistent as they fell within the average to high-average range. On task measuring reading and decoding skills, Analia was tasked to read words that gradually increased in difficulty. Analia scored in the high average range as she was able to read words that she had no prior exposure to using her decoding skills such as “pterodactyl, unscrupulous and opaque.” Analia began to struggle when tasked with reading words with more unique vowel blends found in the English language such as “pique, nuptial and inveigle.” On task measuring comprehension, Analia was tasked to read short passages and answer questions by filling in the blank. Analia scored in the average range as she was able to answer the initial passages easily, however as the difficulty of the passages’ vocabulary increase she lost meaning of what belong in the blank space. While her answers often made sense in terms of filling in the blank, they often didn’t correctly respond in terms of the context of the passage. On task measuring reading fluency, Analia was tasked to read short sentences and display comprehension by correctly circling “yes” or “no” in response to the sentence. Analia scored in the average range as she was able to respond to questions in a timely fashion. She managed her time well as Analia recorded zero incorrect answers and worked in accordance to her same age peers. Overall, Analia’s ability to read challenging words is more developed than her reading fluency and comprehension
