Threshold is the minimum level of stimulation perceived. When aging the threshold amount needed to be aware of a sensation becomes greater. People in their younger days that were exposed to loud noises such as loud music their hearing may slightly decline. In aging the number of taste bud can decrease in both men and women but each remaining taste bud will began to lose mass. While the bitter and sour taste buds may last a little bit longer the sweet and sour are the first to decrease. Dry mouth and difficultly swallowing may occur with aging because the mouth may not produce as much saliva. The sense of touch includes vibration and pain. The brain can interpreted whether a touch is pleasant or unpleasant. However many older people have a decrease in touch and sensation as the age which can make it hard for the to tell the difference between cool and cold. Some older people have trouble walking because of the inability to tell where the body is in relation to the floor.
