Dr. Karen Mills, Au.D. came and explained her occupation to our career exploration class. Audiologist test hearing, fit hearing aids, and work with dizziness and balance issues. Audiology was named the second best career of all careers in 2015. The career includes a variety of math, science, and physics. Audiologist work in many facilities such as a doctor's office, hospitals, schools and even on military bases for the soldiers. They work with a variety of ages ranging from newborn to elderly. Most women like this job because it brings happiness and you get filled with joy when you get to see the facial expressions and emotions of a person who has never heard before finally get to hear. Men seem to enjoy the job mostly because they get to fiddle with gadgets and new technology in the hearing aids. …show more content…
She uses an audiometer to test hearing. She informed that there are three types of hearing loss. The first type is called conductive hearing loss, which is a mechanical issue caused by earwax or fluid. The second type is sensorineural hearing loss , a kind of hearing loss that occurs in older people who have been around loud noises all their life and their hearing gets bad. The third type of hearing loss in a combination of both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Some medicines can affect hearing such as chemo.
