Before the Age of Exploration, Europeans had lost control of the Mediterranean areas. This has influenced Europeans to start exploring because without control over Mediterranean their trading relations were decreasing and would result in them losing power. As a result European explorers have discovered the Columbian exchange. As shown in Document 3, the Columbian exchange had increased the trading relationship between the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is believed that the Columbian exchange was significant because it emphasizes the spread of food, ideas, and technology. In addition, the Columbian exchange was believed to be positive because all the nations involved in the columbian exchange gained new resources, technologies, and ideas. Another motive of explorers during this time was to find new routes to the Asian market, because Asia was best known for its goods. This has positively impacted European explorers because it allowed them to have direct access. This benefited Europeans because it made trading a lot easier and faster. Although the Age of Exploration brought new trading routes and sovereignty, those changes were only temporary and ended negatively. Through the age of exploration the Columbian Exchange was discovered, and through the columbian exchange food, ideas, and technology were traded but diseases were also spread. As Document 3 shows, diseases such as smallpox, Influenza, whooping cough, and Measles were spread along within the trade route. This might have benefitted Europe because it gave Europeans an advantage against the Native people since they were much more immune to those diseases. On the other hand, as Document 7 shows the diseases had a negative impact on the Native people, and it played a role in the decreased populations of the Native people.. Before the Age Exploration, Natives were never involved with trading routes. When the Europeans forced the Americas into trading, the new diseases brought to them were foreign and so they couldn’t treat the diseases before it killed a large percentage of Natives. In addition, Europe might have gained sovereignty but soon lost it. The purpose of exploration was to better Europe’s economic state, because a large percentage of Europe’s population were poor and sick. But exploration only ended up making the poor people poorer, putting Europe in a worse economic and political situation than it was already
