Diseases intrigue me. I love to analyze them, understand the symptoms that define them, but most importantly, discover if and how the ailment can be cured. From childhood to adulthood I have noticed a disease I have personally diagnosed as African American Dystrophy; characterized by the weakening, degeneration, or abnormal development of a people. A disease that has metastasized my community, appearing benign in its beginning stages, but growing malignant and life-threatening with increased inattention and neglect.
African American Dystrophy is primarily characterized by the symptoms of poverty, unemployment, insufficient education and access to drugs. All of which have viciously and relentlessly targeted the black community.
