Introduction
The problem addressed in this laboratory report is aerobic fitness and its association with cardiovascular disease and all cause mortality. Aerobic fitness is related to the ability to perform large muscle, dynamic, moderate to vigorous intensity exercise for prolonged periods of time (Thompson, Gordon, & Pescatello, 2014). Aerobic fitness has been considered a health-related part of physical fitness due to the fact that lower levels of aerobic fitness have been associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality particularly cardiovascular disease. Therefore, increased levels of aerobic fitness have been associated with lower risk of death from all causes and have been associated with higher levels of routine physical activity, which are associated with numerous health benefits.
The reason that research studying aerobic fitness is that the evidence that shows the beneficial effects of exercise is scientific and unquestionable, and the benefits of exercise outweigh the risks by far in most people. Also, increased aerobic fitness is …show more content…
The cons of the step test are taking possible precautions for people with balance problems or those extremely out of shape, the metabolic equivalent may exceed the maximal capacity of a participant, and noncompliance to step cadence and excessive fatigue can diminish its value. The populations that would be most applicable to this test are individuals that are active and healthy. The populations that would least benefit from this test are those that are small, obese, deconditioned, or those with an existing medical condition or heart
