Social Media: A Better Option for Today’s Society People all over the world have their own views on social media. A group of people will tell you that social media is one of the world’s greatest inventions; others may try to convince you otherwise. There are two types of people: the type who are against social media for any reasons, including possible dangers, and the type who are all for social media and all of the convenience that it has to offer. With virtually endless opportunities daily to communicate with others near and far, social media is truly one of the most innovative inventions of the 21st century. Another “bad” point would be the ability to unfollow or even block someone, as it is generally being used out of turn. But whether the problem is insignificant, noticeable, or intolerable, it is best to look past small flaws like these and move on, looking forward to the better part of social networking. People will often say that frequently logging onto social media could signal some sort of addiction. Some may ask, “Is social media even worth it?” “What is the point of social media?” “Why do so many people think it is so important?” While addiction is real, it is definitely treatable. Communication with other people is important to most people in everyday life. If calling that one person on the phone is not an option, social media is usually considered the next best thing. Just because social media is a good thing, that does not mean that it is absolutely flawless. Since about 2009, Facebook has been on a steady increase of users. By 2011, when Facebook became even more popular, the media saw the rise of the term “Facebook Addiction Disorder”. While social media networks such as Facebook has gone as far as becoming addictive to some users, which has caused many users to deactivate their accounts, Facebook remains to be the most popular social network.
