Social media is growing rapidly throughout the whole world. Originally social media was created for only the military’s access, which made it easier to stay connected. Next, the police got ahold of it and social media became a great source of help to track and locate criminals. When the public learned of this extraordinary technology it rocketed around the world. Each person eager to try this new source of communicating. Today there are over 2 billion active social media accounts and nearly 1.4 billion Facebook users. These numbers are constantly escalating; in 2016 it is estimated to have over 2.13 billion social network users. Everyone has had a friend in their life whom they have grown close with and then one has to move away. Social media is the best way to help these friends stay caught up in each other's lives by posting pictures and/or family updates. It is not easy to call, text, email, or write often for everyone, but posting a few things a month is great for friends to easily stay connected. Meeting new people is nice in a lot of ways. It helps one learn different regions of the world, different morals and beliefs, and also improving one's friend making skills. Social media is also great in many other ways such as spreading news and information faster. All of these examples are advantages of having social media, but meeting friends online can also be very dangerous. No matter how much a person thinks they know about their online “friend”, everything being said could be complete lies, and one never knows the other person’s true identity.
