Through social reforms, the health care system was able to be made more accessible and equal for the middle class. However, it is estimated that “over 1.2 veterans (still) don’t have health insurance” , and many are having to wait months, even years for their injuries to be recognized and processed through the VA; these problems are primarily caused by severe understaffing of professional health care workers in the VA. In some cases, there are 500 patients to one doctor. To combat this social ill in my community, I work with the council to donate needed items such as hygiene supplies and cleaning materials, but I want to, ultimately, become a physical therapist. I want to help veterans with severe injuries such as amputees, paraplegics, quadriplegics not only recover from their wounds, but be a source of support for them in earning their full rights by informing them of their full
