Va's Community Living Center Case Study

Walking into the Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital for the first time is an experience. The shining academic center had gaping hallways, sizable windows, and modern technology. At the VA, the space was smaller, windows fewer, and portable computers were rare. After weeks of walking the halls, I started to notice different things. Everyone I passed greeted me with a jovial “Hi!” and I began to notice the different pins and hats signifying where people served. This was a population I wanted to work with.

I wanted to help within the VA's Community Living Center. The CLC is a combination hospice and nursing facility unit. Patients here are either close to dying or had dying memories ravaged by neurological disease. Wanting to help, I hoped to connect
