Adaptive Leadership

Ronald Heifetz was a founding member of adaptive leadership. Arguing that it is not a theory but a practice of rallying people through tough challenges and obstacles. It is also a distributed leadership which means it is a style of leadership that can be shown across a(n) organization(s) not just in senior ranking positions. He also claimed that this is a style of leadership used for challenges that change quickly, therefore forcing the leadership adapt to the challenges, or obstacles in the way of completing the mission. The field manuals that speak about The Operations Process and Adaptive leadership are FM 5-0 for Operations Process and FM 6-22 for Adaptive Leadership. FM 6-2 provides a solid definition and summary of what Adaptive leadership is and what it is used for it is a great tool to look in to. As for FM 5-0 it is the process in which to prepare for operations using the adaptive leadership traits. Both of which are great to gain knowledge on Adaptive leadership

The first is Emotional intelligence which is used in many leadership styles. Emotional intelligence one must understand the characteristics such as to be self-aware of ones’ emotions during the mission. You must be able to self-manage, or try to understand ones’ behavior and well-being. Social awareness is a key characteristic where everyone must understand the social boundary of when to be professional and when it is time to have fun.
