ALS Ice Bucket Challenge: St. Baldick's Awareness Campaign

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was a video awareness cause trending during the summer of 2014. Throughout social media an individual would pour ice water on their head and you would see how they reacted, this created so much buzz. This created awareness throughout this whole world with celebrities from Kanye West and Kobe Bryant participating. Alsa.org states that 17 million people uploaded an Ice Bucket Challenege video, I particapated in this cause last summer. “According to Google, last August more people searched for information about ALS than in the entire last decade. The ALS Association is grateful not only for the increased awareness about the disease but also for the $115 million in donation” (Alsa.org) This ice bucket challenge just …show more content…
Baldrick's Foundation raises money and awareness for the cause of cancer. They create events throughout communities to shave their heads and take that hair to use for cancer patients also creating drives for money. St. Baldrick's creates their awareness campaign by having events nation wide. Through social media this wouldn't be possible. They create several hashtags throughout the year to help their cause: #fightthecure, #stbaldricks and many more. Their Twitter has 61.6k followers that is the top 20% of Twitter for followers. That is tremendous for this campaign. March is the national month for this awareness campaign. They recently sponsored a campaign on campus. They had 11 kids shave their heads and raised $2,670. I talked to head chair that ran this campaign Amy Polewacyzk she said “I have done this campaign at home for several years and I wanted to bring it to Fairfield. I found out this campaign through my Twitter two years without that it wouldn't have been possible for me to start this whole campaign throughout campus.” Without St. Baldricks social media these campaigns around the nation started by individuals wouldn't be possible. The St. Baldricks campaign is huge throughout their social media accounts between Facebook, Twitter and Instagram they provide more than 4 million people with up to date information on their campaign, how they can get involved and cancer
