My participant’s family consists of my participant, his mother and father, his sister, his brother, and his grandparents. The rank order for my participant’s family with respect to age goes as follows: grandparents, father, mother, sister, my participant, and brother.
There are several subsystems within my participant’s internal family. The first subsystem consists of my participant his father and his grandfather. Another subsystem includes my participant’s mother and the sister. The last subsystem includes my participant and his brother.
Warren’s family type based on the boundaries found within the internal family would be classified as an open family. When asked about their internal family subsystems Warren stressed how they were comprised of love and respect, values that are found within open families. They are engaged in each other’s lives, but not enmeshed. Warren described how everyone’s opinions were valued within his family, and everyone’s input was taken into account before major decisions were made. Warren is close with most of his extended family, but he is extremely close with his grandfather and his oldest cousin. Warren has been close with his grandfather since he was a kid, they only lived several miles apart so they were always together as Warren grew up. Warren’s grandfather showed him how to play football, and ultimately developed his love for the sport. Warren looks up to his grandfather because he came from a different country with only a suitcase full of clothes and little money. He worked hard every day of his life so his kids could live a better life than he had. He didn’t ask for anything in return except to see how happy his family
