A Good Man Is Hard To Find Foreshadowing

Flannery O'Connor writes amazing stories, he's an amazing author. He wrote this story called “A Good Man is Hard to Find” and that is what I am going to talk about. In my opinion I think that O’Connor uses both foreshadowing and flashbacks to create suspense and tension. Others may disagree, but here's my side. I think that O’Connor uses foreshadowing and flashbacks in his story to create tension because he used a lot of them and also because when you read the story that is how the tension is created. In the story he used one really good foreshadow, “In case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady.” This foreshadow makes me feel like they are going to get into a car accident. Guess what happens later in the story, they get into a car accident. Using flashbacks creates tension because in the story it says, “Outside of Toomsboro she woke up and recalled an old plantation that she had visited in this …show more content…
There is other ways that tension is built in this story. For example, “Did you read about that criminal, The Misfit, that's escaped?’ asked the grandmother.’I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he didn't attack this place right here,’ said the woman. ‘If he hears about it being here, I wouldn't be none surprised to see him. If he hears it's two cent in the cash register, I wouldn't be a tall surprised if he . . .” Here is an an example of how tension is build when there is no foreshadowing or flashbacks. They are creating tension by scaring everyone and saything that they are going to get robbed. So those people who think that there isn't any flashbacks and foreshadowing, have good points. All together I think that O'Connor uses foreshadowing and flashbacks to create tension. Some may disagree, they have their reasons.
