I have found this method of learning invaluable. However the trainee will only ever be as good as the teacher. If the mentor shows bad habits/old ways of working to the mentee this can create more problems in the workplace. It is important to identify people working the way they should and that they have a supportive nurturing personality. Not everyone is suited to mentoring/buddying someone less experienced.
