When to use the present perfect

Use the present perfect to talk about recent event that happened before now. The time is not specific or important: (Often) never and ever is used. Ex. I've never been to Italy.


Or to talk recent events or action which start in the past and continues now. (Often) just already, yet, recently... Is used. Ex. We've already eaten.

When to use the simple past

Use the simple past to talk about a specific event that starts and finishes in the past. (We know when it happened)


Ex. We went to Stockholm in the summer.
