Mission Statement

Defines the agency’s purpose & outlines what it intends to accomplish

Programmers Role

Focus on individual needs, community needs, & organizational strengths & weaknesses

Individual Needs

Identify wants & needs of the target market. What individuals does the agency intend to serve?

Organizational Needs

Identify the strength & weaknesses or the organization. Make sure the services offered contribute to the mission statement & operate within limited resources.

Community Needs

Identify what leisure options already exist in the community. Threats & Opportunities.

Public Interest

Look at the community & find something they have in common for their wants & needs & target that. (Ex: You could do a focus group.) It’s what the public thinks they need, not what you think they need.

Example of Outcome Objectives

The outcome could be for your client to lose weight so you can evaluate it to see if the outcome was accomplished.

Program Objectives

Anything you’re doing to plan a program. Doing something program wise to reach a goal.

Example of Program Objective

Goal: To increase faculty & staff attendance at the wellness.


Objective: Offer faculty/staff only classes in Spring 2019.

Writing Objectives

An infinitive “to”, a verb, a subject, & a time frame. Ex: to develop 4 new group fitness classes by fall 2019.

Objective Outcome

Measurable outcomes that determine whether the goal or aim was achieved.
