Basic requirements of a PPL

-Age 17


-Cat 3 medical


-40 hrs ground school


-60% written test


-45 hrs flight training (can include 5 hrs sim)


-17 hrs dual


-12 hours solo including 5 hrs cross country


-completed cross country flight of at least 150 nm including 2 en route full stops


pass flight test

Category 3 medical validity

-Valid for 60 months (valid on the 1st day of the 61st month)


-Over 40, valid 24 months


-ECG required first test over 40 and every 4 years after

Failing a written test

-You must pay for rewrites


-14 days after first failure


-30 days after second failure


-60 days for 3rd failure, etc up to 180 days

Privileges of a PPL

-Can fly as PIC of plane of class or type for which you have ratings


-As PIC of an ultralight


-As PIC or Copilot for purpose of training so long as supervised by trainer with no passengers


-As PIC for purpose of flight test


-Not for Hire or Reward
