What is a Nucleon?
Protons and Nuetrons which comprise the nucleus. Refered to as the Nucleon.
What is a Nuclide?
(Number of Protons and Nuetrons) refered to when talking about the atom in nuclear chemistry.
What two ways can Nuclides be represented?
RA-222 and Ra 222
8
What is the symbol of Alpha Radiation? Shielding?
4 He Paper, Clothing
2
What is the symbol of Beta Radiation? Shielding?
0 e Metal Foil
-1
What is the symbol for Gamma Radiation? Shielding?
0 Lead, Concrete
What does Radioactive mean?
Radioactive is defined as a process of giving off rays or radiation.
How come certain objects are radioactive and others aren't?
They are because they don't fit in to the band of stability.
What is Transmutation?
Transmutation is the conversion of a radioactive substnce into a new substance through decay.
What is fusion energy?
Fusion energy is the combining of smaller nuclei into larger nuclei.
Fusion and fission difference?
Fusion is the combining of nuclei and fission is the dividing of nuclei.
What are RadioIsotopes?
Radio Isotopes are chemical tracers. Can be traced through chemical reactions.
What is a Half-Life?
A half life is the time in which half of a sample can be broked down during radioactive decay.
How do Nuclear forces hold the nuetrons and protons together in the nucleus?
The Nuclear forces hold the neutrons and protons together in the nucleus through a strong force which pulls the quarks together which are held by the gluons which hold the foces together.
