Mood vs. Affect
mood- how the person claims they feel

affect- how their apperance and body language says they feel
2 week period of either depressed mood or anhedonia plus 5 of the following:

Significant weight loss
Insomnia or hypersomnia
Psychomotor retardation or agitation
Fatigue
Worthlessness or guilt
Decreased concentration or indecisiveness
Suicidal ideation

Clinically significant impairment
major depressive disorder
Elevated, expansive or irritable mood for at least 1 week

3 or more of the following (4 if only irritable mood)

Inflated self-esteem or grandiosity
Decreased need for sleep
More talkative or pressured speech
Flight of ideas or racing thoughts
Distractibility
Increased goal-directed activity or psychomotor agitation
Excessive involvement in pleasurable activities with a high potential for negative consequences

Symptoms cause marked impairment or psychotic features present
