Isolate area to 200m


Avoid direct line-of-site exposures to the cylinder at all times. Solid physical barrier is essential to protect from shrapnel in event of explosion


Remove or extinguish any heat source impacting cylinder if safe to do so


Cool cylinder with high volume of water, continue cooling cylinders exposed to heat for at least 1 hour after removing heat source


Check cylinder temp with TIC

List some of your actions as Incident Controller at an LPG spill/leak and LPG fire

Consider evacuation for at least 800m in all directions


Firefighting:


Isolate supply if safe to do so, move cylinders if safe to do so


Allow fire to burn, cool cylinder paying particular attention to vapour space at the top of cylinder/bullet to avoid possible BLEVE.


Continue cooling cylinder well after fire is out


Liquid leak/spill or vapour release


Eliminate ignition sources


Consult onsite personnel/driver to obtain quantity in tank


Use TIC to confirm leak site


Isolate supply if possible


Use water spray or fog to disperse vapour clouds


Evacuate up to 800m


If leak cannot be isolated respond rescue with gas flare off kit to empty remaining contents (up to 200kg)
