People have different opinions and ideas about normal or abnormal sexual behaviors. Sex is common all over the world, and all people are interested in it. The most common disorders are homosexuality, sexual dysfunctions, and sexual deviation. The only reason why these disorders are unique is due to the norm established by society, but they are not necessarily abnormal (Dombeck, 2002). Sexual orientation describes patterns of sexual and romantic attraction towards someone else. Normally one pole attracts the other, but in this case, it does not work like that. Most of the time, there is an underlying health problem causing the dysfunction; this can be diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, among others. In women, several problems prevent them from having normal intercourse. There is lack of orgasms, inhibited sexual desire, inability to become aroused, and painful intercourse, the ladder being the most common. Painful intercourse can be caused by many problems, including endometriosis, pelvic masses, ovarian cysts, poor lubrication, scar tissue, or a sexually transmitted disease. These problems can be resolved by means of surgery, medication, and sometimes hormonal therapy (Wincze, 2001). Sexual difficulties are common in patients affected by anxiety disorders. Sexual dysfunction is very common in people with these problems. Most of the time anxiety can lead to further problems such as sexual avoidance. This is very common in males with panic disorders because of the high fear of embarrassment. In addition, sexual dysfunctions are not only limited to psychological problems only. It can also be due to ingestion of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or controlled drugs to treat other diseases. However, the main theory is that it is more mental than physical (Kaplan, 1988). In comparison with other sexual dysfunctions, sexual deviation is a mental disorder.
